Ferenc Puskás
Ferenc Puskás (Budapest 1927-2006) was a Hungarian footballer, considered Hungary's greatest player and one of the most prolific goalscorers in football history.
A left midfielder and striker of extraordinary power, he began his career at Kispest in 1943. After moving to Honved, the army team (Puskas held the rank of colonel), in 1948 he set a record for goals scored in a single season (50) and won four national titles.
In 1952, he led Hungary to victory over Yugoslavia at the Olympics in Helsinki, and in 1954 in Switzerland, he came close to winning the World Cup, losing the final to West Germany. After the Soviet invasion of his country (1956), he moved to Spain, where he played for Real Madrid, winning five league titles, three European Cups, and one Intercontinental Cup. He retired in 1966, having scored 511 goals, including 83 in 84 matches for the Hungarian national team.
