Del is an alligatorvillager in the Animal Crossing franchise. His name could possibly be a reference to crocodiles. His Japanese name, his color scheme, and his metallic appearance appears to be a reference to the Japanese battleship Yamato. Del is among the few villagers who are not technically animals, along with Coco, Sprocket, Stitches, Cephalobot, Ribbot, and others.
Del is a dark purple-grey alligator, the bottom portion of his jaws and abdomen a rich red. The tip of his tail, and his feet seem to be a separate piece of metal than the rest of his body. He has large, black nostrils, white teeth and half open eyes with small black pupils, giving him a tired or angry look. His eyes become a bright red when performing certain reactions. There are black rectangles on the sides of his face, possibly representing the "windows" of a battleship. His head has a marked resemblance to "crocs", a slip-on shoe. His navy coloring, serious expression, and pointy teeth sticking out from his lower jaw make him coincidentally resemble his fellow cranky villager, Boris the pig. In Dōbutsu no Mori e+, Del initially wears a wave shirt in Dōbutsu no Mori e+, and a blue-stripe tee in later games.
Del has a cranky personality, so he will usually appear agitated or moody, and he will be more difficult to befriend than other types of villagers. When speaking to the player, he tends to get angry if the player disagrees with him or refuses to do him a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Del will spend his time on his hobbies and will frequently challenge the player to various competitions. He will get along well with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally with lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it difficult to socialize with peppy villagers due to his overstimulated and immature attitude. Del will also enjoy spreading rumors about other villagers.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, he has some pirate furniture. He has a globe and surprisingly, a robo-dresser. He also has an inner tube and an amazing machine, but lacks any gyroids. If he owns a stereo, it will play K.K. March.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Del retains the same wallpaper and flooring but has more of a futuristic theme, with several items of the robo series, no longer owning any pirate items.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the exterior of the home is a navy blue with a red door and a small circular window. The roof is a black with a lighter gray around the edges. The interior of the home has an intricate piping wallpaper and pirate-themed flooring. The furniture consists of a sink, generator, a black folding table with two green chairs and a board game, two nitrogen tanks, various building materials, and the work bench. On the back wall, he has a key holder and a black shelf. Hanging above on the wall are three models of the golden gears DIY.
In Template:NH, his body has a metallic texture, reflecting light, and occasionally makes mechanical sounds when moving. This is the same as the other mechanical villagers, Ribbot, Cephalobot, and Sprocket.
In previous games, it was not explicitly obvious that he was meant to be mechanical. This led to some fans joking that he resembled a crocs slip-on shoe.
