== Economic Resources ==
Despite overexploitation of gold, oil, natural gas, and mercury deposits, California retains significant reserves of minerals and raw materials. Tungsten, oil, natural gas, and salt are present in significant quantities, followed by asbestos, sand, gravel, cement, borax, stone, iron ore, magnesium, silver, and precious stones. Agriculture, a particularly thriving industry, relies on the cultivation of grapes, fodder, cotton, sugar beets, potatoes, rice, fruits, and vegetables. Livestock farming and its products (dairy farming, meat) are also important.

The forests are exploited for timber production, primarily Douglas fir, redwood, and pine trees, while the presence of the sea has fueled the development of the fishing industry, which has become an important component of the state's economy; the main species caught include anchovy, swordfish, salmon, tuna, and herring. The industrial sector relies on the production of aircraft and other transportation equipment, electronics (the heart of which is located in Silicon Valley), industrial equipment, and scientific instruments. The printing, food, metallurgical, tourism, and film industries are also thriving.
